Calculate employee retention rate using the standard headcount method. Distinct from turnover rate — measures those who stayed, not those who left.

Formula: Retention rate = (Employees remaining at period end ÷ Headcount at period start) × 100

Note: Retention rate measures the proportion of employees who stayed from period start to end, not accounting for new hires. This differs from the inverse of turnover rate, which uses average headcount. Both are valid — choose consistently and document the method used.
